Understanding the World

This page provides information for parents and carers on the National Expectations for children starting Foundation Stage 1 (Nursery) at Gwladys Street in terms of Understanding the World. These expectations are outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.

Children are beginning to:

  • talk about their family, friends and events that have happened from their own experience
  • notice things in the world around them
  • talk and ask some questions about why things happen
  • show an interest in computers, ipads etc

Miss Nolan and the team will support your child over this year to help prepare them for their learning journey at Gwladys Street.

By the end of the Nursery Year, the National Expectation for Understanding the World is as follows:

Children are beginning to:

  • share information about their life and family and shows an interest in other ways of life
  • talk about things that they observe such as plants, animals and why things happen
